Entering the first quarter of 2025, we look back on the progress made, thanks to the collective efforts and dedication of the KDE community.
In this update, we reflect on the key developments and achievements of the first months of 2025. From exciting new advancements in Plasma to major community initiatives, we share insights into our ongoing journey to enhance the KDE ecosystem.
The KDE community will come together in the beautiful city of Berlin this year for our annual conference Akademy. You are welcome to join us in September. More details and announcements to come on the Akademy website.
Plasma 6.3 was released in February 2025 with many feature refinements and new modules to complete the desktop experience. This release adds two weeks’ worth of new translations and fixes from KDE’s contributors.
KDE Gear 24.12.3 is a bugfix release that improves over 180 apps, including KWordQuiz, KIO-Extras, and Okular. It fixes issues like file opening, iOS device access, and crashes when signing in Okular.
This update enhances performance, fixes bugs, and modernizes features for a more efficient and stable user experience.
During the last quarter, we represented KDE at various events and organized the Kdenlive Sprint.
Nate Graham, Board Member of KDE e.V. joined Tech Over Tea to talk about fundraising, money, and design.
Lydia Pintscher, Vice President of KDE e.V., received the European Open Source Award for Advocacy and Awareness.
Bhushan Shah has received a grant to work on Plasma Mobile power management improvements.
This year, we welcome 14 people to Season of KDE to improve KDE software and learn new skills.
This year’s conf.kde.in is happening in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, from 4 to 6 April.
This year, the KDE Goals Sprint is happening in Graz, Austria, from 21 to 27 April.
This year’s Linux App Summit will take place in Tirana, Albania and Online from 25 to 26 April.
