As we move through the second and third quarter of 2024, your support and active involvement in KDE have been instrumental in our progress and innovation.
In this update, we reflect on the developments and achievements of the past six months, from continued enhancements in Plasma 6 and applications to key events and community initiatives.
Plasma becomes a friendlier, more accessible and smarter environment. It’s time to start delivering on the promises of the new Qt 6 and Wayland technology platforms that Plasma is built on top of.
KDE Gear 24.08.0 enhances apps like Dolphin, Kdenlive, and Itinerary, improving file management, video editing, and travel planning. New features include usability improvements in Dolphin, curve editing in Kdenlive, and seat information in Itinerary.
This release continues the series of monthly updates aimed at delivering consistent improvements swiftly to developers.
Discover all about your favorite apps in the This Week in KDE Apps series! Developer Nate Graham’s blog no longer covers KDE applications, as KDE has grown too large for one person to track all changes each week. Instead, it now follows changes in Plasma under the title This week in Plasma.
Hash-o-Matic 1.0.1 has been released! It is a tool for comparing and generating checksums for your files to verify their authenticity. It also verifies files via their PGP signatures.
As we celebrate 25 years of Krita, let’s learn more about KDE’s popular application. Krita is a full-featured digital art studio perfect for sketching and painting. It provides an end-to-end solution for creating digital painting files from scratch by professionals.
During the last two quarters, we represented KDE at various events and organized the Goals and PIM Sprints.
Akademy 2024, hosted at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, gathered KDE community members to reset priorities, refocus goals, and unite projects for a greater impact. Read more here and watch all the videos here.

KDE is a diverse community that votes every two years on three main goals to guide its projects. This cycle focuses on enhancing user experience for input devices, supporting developers, and promoting community growth. For more on past goals, click here.
KDE has closed its long-standing news site, the Dot, due to content volume challenges. Updates will now be available through KDE Planet, allowing users to access news directly from various contributors across multiple platforms.
We would like you to host an event in your city during October 2024. It can be a small get-together or a grand affair, or you can just meet over beverages and share pictures with us afterwards, of course, there is no need to celebrate the same day.
KDE contributors will be attending the Ubuntu Summit in the Hague, Netherlands from 25 to 27 October.
